大学のダンスサークルで、一つ上の先輩がカメラを構えている姿に出会ったのが、写真との最初のきっかけです。「自分でも撮ってみたい」と思って、見よう見まねでカメラを始めました。
仕事として続けようと決めたのは、高校時代の先輩から結婚式の撮影を頼まれたときでした。アマチュアだった私に、「あなたに撮ってほしい」と言ってくれて。撮り終えた写真を見て、彼女が深く感動してくれた瞬間に、これは続ける価値のある仕事だと心から思いました。
撮影前に必ず聞くようにしているのは、「この一枚は、何のためにあるのか」ということです。依頼してくださる方の本当の思いや、向かいたい場所は、打ち合わせの中ですぐには言葉にならないことが多いと感じています。その奥にあるものを、対話の中で一緒に見つけていくところから、撮影は始まります。
依頼の言葉の背後にあるものを想像し、確認しながら撮影に反映する——それが、私が軸にしている考え方です。ジャンルにはこだわらず、必要とされる場所で役割を果たしたいと思っています。
My first encounter with photography was at a dance club in college, watching a friend a year ahead of me shoot photos and wanting to do the same. I picked up a camera and started learning by imitation. Years later, a friend from high school asked me — still an amateur — to photograph her wedding. Seeing how moved she was by the photos was the moment I knew this was something I wanted to keep doing.
Every project begins with a single question: what is this image actually for? What someone truly hopes to do or move toward rarely surfaces in the first conversation. My work, before pressing the shutter, is to find that with them — and let every frame serve it.
